Typology of "kant" in cantatas by Borys Liatoshyns'kyj and Valentin Silvestrov
The author of the article analyses known works by mentioned composers from the point of view of typological genre- and style-determined features of the Ukrainian "kant". The analyse of choir works by Liatoshyns'kyj on the poems by Taras Shevchenko reveals an analogy to classic spiritual Ukrainian choir concerto of the 18th century, "chorus miniatures" by Mykola Leontovytch of the early 20th century, works by À Webern. The choir cycle "The seasons" by Liatoshyns'kyj on the poems by Aleksandr Pushkin features the simplicity of the march-genre support and laconicism of as a particular link to the Ukrainian kant. The analyse of Silvestrov's cantata "Forest Music" reveals no firm typological characteristics of the "kant", but clear associations with "kant"-like hymn features on account of the rhythmical factor as well as melodic intonation patterns of speaking language, approaching to the spiritual genre. The article draws conclusions of typological features of "kant" in the works by the above-mentioned authors.
