   I would like to send you my very best wishes for the important project "Musica Ukrainica". This project is overdue because of the growing relevance of the Ukrainian music in the internatinal concert-life. The last couple of years the Ukrainian music has received a growing recognition, and since the borders to and from Ukraine are open a fruitful process of international exchange began,,which I was lucky to be allowed to participate in. The Festival "2 Days and Nights of New Music" was and is an important part in this process. My repeated visits to Ukrain during the last couple of year have enriched my musical life and the vigor and craft of both ukrainian musicians and the ukrainian music itself had a stimulating and enriching effect on me.
Again my very best wishes for this important project ,which definitly will have strong significance for both the ukrainian and the international music life.

   Seit 1995 hat die Ukraine ein neues Forum der zeitgenössischen Musik: das Festival in Odessa "2 days and 2 nights". Drei Jahre zuvor begann ich als verantwortlicher Prorektor der Freiburger Partnerhochschule des Odessaer Konservatoriums, ein Konzept zu entwickeln, das Tendenzen der zeitgenössischen Musik in Odessa präsentierente. Mir gelang es, gemeinsam mit der Komponistin Karmella Tsepkolenko 1995 das erste grosse Internationale Festival "2 days and 2 nights" ins Leben zu rufen, das internationale Künstler mit neuester Musik aus aller Welt vorstellte und von Anbeginn das grösste und wichtigste Forum für zeitgenössische Musik in der Ukraine wurde und immer noch ist. Zahllose Konzerte, Meisterkurse, Seminare, Konferenzen haben seither das musikalische Leben nicht nur Odessas sondern der gesamten Ukraine bereichert, unterstützt durch die Soros-Foundation, um Ost und West hat es damit die Funktion des "Prager Frühlings" und des "Warschauer Herbstes" bernommen.
   Als Präsident dieses Festivals ist es mir eine Freude, der neuen ukrainischen Musikzeitung zu ihrem Erscheinen zu gratulieren. Möge sie dazu beitragen, den Austausch von Informationen, neuen Ideen und das gegenseitige Verständnis zu vertiefen und damit dem Frieden dienen.
